Do Americans need visas to stay and WORK in Germany for more than 3 months

Do Americans need visas to stay and WORK in Germany for more than 3 months?
I already posted a question similar but I didn't mention the WORK part. Does it make a difference if I'm working and staying there longer than 3 months?? Anyone know? Thanks

Americans can visit Germany for tourism for up to 90 days without a visa. Americans may not work while there under those circumstances. If you wish to legally reside and work in Germany, you will require specific authorization. You may apply for your residence and work permit while remaining in Germany as a visitor, but you are not allowed to work until after the work and residence permit applications have been approved.

The fist person has given you a very complete information, and he is absolutly right . Just in addition, I would recomend you to visit the official web of the German Foreing Affairs Ministry (Auswärtiges Amt). You can find there, all you need to know and the Info is also in English. Here are the links: http://www.auswaertiges-amt.de/diplo/en/Startseite.html Everything about living and working in Germany and the requirements you have to fullfill are here: http://www.auswaertiges-amt.de/diplo/en/WillkommeninD/EinreiseUndAufenthalt/uebersicht.html There is something special about USA citizens, you can find more information in the following link, however I would sugest to call a German Consulate near to you, sometimes the german law is not so easy to understand. http://www.auswaertiges-amt.de/diplo/en/WillkommeninD/EinreiseUndAufenthalt/Visabestimmungen.html#t7
