Is it OK for me to physically discipline my dog? My cousin in Germany who work for the circus say that he use?
the whip on his animals and even large, aggressive animals obey him. My dog just won't listen to me. Do you think the belt will work. My wife doesn't agree. Should I listen to my wife or my cousin?

Eh, belt is a bit harsh. A firm correction - a tap, tug of the collar. Try those first. That doesn't work, consult a trainer

Listen to your wife. Abusing a dog will not help it at all but will cause mental & physical damages. You need be patient, and to consult a trainer, or rehome your dog if you think that whipping a dog will be a solution.

do not use the whip that is just cruel!!!!!! the belt is cruel to but if you must physically abuse him use your hand and slap his butt, dogs can become very afraid and aggressive from animal abuse! your dog just needs patience!

Hire a trainer, or sign up for obedience class. Your belt will do no good, and if that's the only conclusion you can come up with, maybe you should reconsider having a dog.

Um..........your wife of course. It is never ever necessary to hit your dog. They have a natural tendency to want to please humans. When you correct your dog, do not yell. Try to use his name with praise and bad dog not his name when appropriate. Short training times and good treats such as hot dog pieces or chicken are great aids. Never call your dog over to you to correct him. Your hands should be for petting and praise. A dog that for example peed in the house 15 minutes ago does not know why you are yelling at him now. Even if you show it to him. Leave the whips for the lion tamers.

there's a HUGE difference between the animals in a circus and a family dog. Your dog doesn't listen because: 1) you show anger at him 2) you aren't alpha pack leader 3) you use inconsistent or bad methods Your wife is absolutely right. In a home situation like yours, using a whip or other similar methods is ABUSE and totally uncalled for. -!-

I think that a good hard slap on the behind with the flat of your palm will suffice, you should not use a belt. Belts leave welts and emotional scars. When you slap a dog, you are spanking it as you would a child who has grown disrespectful. Also, you need to look at your leadership skills. i'm not talking about giving a managerial speech, I'm talking about not backing down or giving mixed messages. I'm also talking about not tempting your dog with unattended food on the table. I've found slapping works because it is something that your dog cannot do to you back. I've heard some people say that biting or simulating a bite on the ear wth your fingernails is the best way, but then you teach your dog to bite when it's mad. Not good.

and that's exactly why some circus animals go berserk after a while. they get tired of getting beaten to death. negative reinforcement is exactly what it is, negative. you can and will get charge for animal abuse if you do this and people know about it.

When can I get my work permit in Germany
When can I get my work permit in Germany?
I was in Germany until August as a volunteer. After I wanted to stay there as a normal worker. I have found a place where I can work. They asked for work permit, but I did not get it, because I am from hungary, and we have membership with EU later as Germany, Italy, England or Holland. I know, that maybe until 2011 I have to ask for work permit, because I have to wait for the time, when Germany let the hungarian people to work without. But maybe Germany let us before... But when? Has somebody information? 19 hours ago - 3 days left to answer. - 0 answers - Report It The reason why, because I am working in the social sector, and in Germany there are lot of worker who work as a social worker and social pedagogist. Ich war beim Arbeitsamt, und sie haben das gesagt, dass ich darf nicht in Deutschland arbeiten weil es gibt viel Sozialpadagogin und sozialarbeiter(in) in Deutschland. I was at the office which responsible for the work for foriners, and they said that I cannot stay to work in Germany 'coz there are a lof of social worker and social pedagogist in Germany. I worked in this school before one year as a volunteer, so I knew everything about the methods or how the day goes and about the children, and that is why I was better than a new german worker and that is why they wanted to take me not as a volunteer but a normal worker. But the german office do not care, they said that the school need a german worker anyway.

I think, if they need somebody with the job you have, you will get work permit before 2011. I have seen people from East Europe, 2004 in one EU country and they have got work permit. They were not member of EU then.

You should contact the local Arbeitsamt. They can register you, and perhaps advise you on this.

The German government has issued a restriction on all new EU citizens which does not allow them to work in Germany without a work permit in Germany until 2011.
