hey, i am currently living in kaiserlautern germany , my husband is stationed here - where are you going here? No your phone will not work here or if it does - then your going to have a high bill... you can get a realy good pre paid phone here ( they are better than in the states) and also get a phone for your place with realy cheap stateside calling... so good luck - if your needing more answers or anything feel free to email me joencarolin.arrington@yahoo.com

I was in Germany in November and my ATT cell worked there. You'll get service there if you have a newer phone. Your provider will know if yours is equipped.

About the only ATT thing I have seen here in Germany is the calling cards and they are not that inexpensive. For a cell telephone, they are inexpensive to purchase, you can pick one up at the PX for $22. This one is with a prepaid calling card. You may also choose to get one with a contract. As for using your cell phone from the states, it depends on the phone itself and if it has compatible bandwidth. The use of it here over time with the US provider would probably cost more. Even a good cell phone here can be found at a reasonable price. The one from the PX is a simple Nokia one with a Vodaphone SIM card. I have a similar one as a second phone and have used Vodaphone for over 10 years with less problems than others I know with other providers. For calling the states, you may be best to get one of the units that plug into the computer that gives you a stateside number. I have heard that Vonage is good and Magic Jack is supposed to have a good deal but I have not heard how good it is. For the normal telephone and internet I have tried a few and have been satisfied with 1&1 flat rate for the past couple of years. I would not recommend either Freenet or the normal Telekom. When you get here, you will need to look over the various systems but as stated above, ATT you can basically forget about.

No, why would you? You're in a different country, so you'd be doing what the nurses in Germany do. The only exception would be if you were in the military as an RN and were stationed in Germany....but you'd be on an American Base.
