You can just apply to renew your old work permit when it reaches near expiry. Of course renewal is much easier than applying for it once again (like a new application). Did u think about option of having "Blue Card" (if u qualify for it) ?

Paralegal Work In Germany....Is it popular

Paralegal Work In Germany....Is it popular?
I am planning to move to Berlin, Germany with my EU citizen fiance, we do plan to marry here in the US first (I am a US citizen). I'm in school now to get my certification as a paralegal and wanted to know if this is a popular job anywhere in Germany. First off I would like to know if I will even be able to work there right away? And if not, how long do I have to wait? Is there anyone out there who knows the process?

You need a converter for the outlets.

You need a voltage converter and plug adaptor. US uses 110/120, Germany uses 240.
3 :
Check the voltage on the back of your machines...if it says 110-240 volts, you are in luck, and only need an US-German adaptor plug. If they were made only for the US market, you need a transformer - the European plug is usually built in - but check the power usage for your hairdryer before you buy...needs to be over 1000 watts, usually...

It is very difficult to get a work visa, esp. for Eurpoean countries, and esp. if you do not have a degree or a very high tech skill that is needed there. You will not be granted a work visa unless you have already secured employment...very difficult. If you have some savings and can show that you have enough to live on without working for a year, you could travel on a tourist visa. New Zealand does have what is called a "working holiday ' program where you can travel and work there. there are many other sites about working holidays on the web, but they do not include people from the U.S. Most are for Canadians and people from the U.K. Even if you can only afford to go for 3 months ( to Germany or wherever you want to start), you would gain experience and meet others who are trying to do the same thing. Save up, keep researhing and I hope you can find a way that works for you. Just saw the answer from vaggos...those pwople working in unskilled jobs from eastern Europe and africa still have to have work visas...they probably got in on refugee status or as temporary guest workers. you can check out the guest worker info on the German Embassy or consulate visa page...but i doubt tha anAmerican can qualify under that program.

Germany, like the rest of Europe, uses different mobile frequencies from the Americas, but according to http://reviews.cnet.com/smartphones/rim-blackberry-curve-8900/4505-6452_7-33485567.html your Blackberry is quad-band, so you will be OK. It will be very expensive for you to use your Canadian SIM card for calls in Germany, as you have to pay charges on received calls as well as the calls you make yourself. Many people buy a local pay-as-you-go SIM card in the country in which they are travelling, and give that number out to their friends, but for this to work your phone must not be locked to Rogers.

We drink too much at the wrong times and are too stuffy at the right times. We will get mad if you don't work hard enough but complain about one another a lot. But....if you do come....then be sure to tell us what a great job we did with the World Cup. Ok? Don't forget. It is important. Thank you.

I spend a lot of time in Germany and I don't think they are racist people at all. In fact, people are very friendly and unassuming in the rural and suburban parts. I wouldn't suggest waving an American flag around, but I find the Germans nice people.
3 :
Germany isn't a racist country! 4000 EUR is way enough money to live there. You also have a better health care (you can go to the doctor 4 free) and you don't really need a car because busses and trains are anywhere.
4 :
Depends on what you look like (color of skin) and where you're going. In general, big cities are better than small towns/villages, western cities are better than eastern. In the easstern state of Saxony, a racist party actually made it into that states parliament, which would never happen in the west. If you are japanese, Duesseldorf would be fine, it has the largest japanese community in germany. 4000 Euro gross income per month will leave you with ca. 2000-2200 Euro net income btw. but I guess living expenses are lower in germany than in japan.

Germans: How do you feel about foreigners living in Germany

Germans: How do you feel about foreigners living in Germany?
What are your opinions of the foreigners in Germany today ? Are most Germans accepting of them? Is there much tension? Do most foreigners living in Germany work to assimilate themselves into the German culture and society or not?
Other - Germany - 5 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
About 15% of the population are first generation immigrants. A lot of foreingers study in the Universities (about 10%). There is naturally some tension, when immigrants don't even try to adapt to the culture a little bit, but I have travled to a lot of other countries and have seen much higher levels of tension and racism.
2 :
I feel fine. I once worked for a company where we had a multinational team, and it was fantastic. Also, while I lived in Berlin for seven years, I got to know some second or third generation Turks who had assimilated themselves pretty good into German culture. There is some tension, of course, but it's mostly exaggerated by the "yellow press", the tabloids, and some privately owned TV channels. In reality, we come along with each other. In my opinion and experience, coming along with different cultures is just a matter of education. We have a problem here with football (soccer, for the Americans) "fan" hooliganism by young Germans, and that's something that should be solved. But we were all young once, and made our mistakes. Don't get me wrong: I think everybody travelling to a foreign country,or living there, should be willing to adapt. But there are some things where you just can't. I travelled a lot, and in the end, I'll always be German, some way or the other. You will see it, you will feel it. And I don't expect other people to give up the culture they've grown up with completely. Simply because you can't.
3 :
You will be accepted if you are not a turk or an arab.
4 :
In our street Polish, Russian, Italian, Spanish, Turkish, Portugese and American people and I don't see them as foreigners but as neighbours. Most of them live here since years and they are assimilated well but they also brought a bit of their culture to Germany...Döner formerly a Turkish dish is now a favourite snack in Germany and there are many Italian, Chinese, Greek etc restaurants Germans like and we also like it to buy foreign food in Turkish or Asian convenience stores. Think that's a real enrichment for Germany. But there are still a few foreigners who refuse to assimilate and that's a bit a problem. We don't expect that they give up their identity and coltute but they should accept German laws and also learn German. There is not so much tension between Germans and foreigners but there's some tension between foreigners themselves e.g. Turkish and Kurdish or Russian and Albanian groups.
5 :
I lived there and was totally accepted to this day. I find them open, friendly, down to earth. Sure they may SEEM stand offish at first but do not let that fool you. That is just conservatism. They are great people mostly as we all know every one has their crazies lol. So I would not worry to much unless you are a fundamentalist and trouble maker you will be accepted just fine, esp if you learn to speak German and use it.

You can use Skype anywhere in the world as long as you have an internet connection, speakers and a microphone. Download it free at www.skype.com
2 :
Skype has one major drawback, as you have to work it through your computer you are leaving your computer open to attack from outside sources. If you are based in Germany there is a much better service available, it is a digital phone service operating through broadband but uses what is almost like a normal phone, in fact it is a video phone. All you need for the service is a reasonable broadband speed and a router, certainly you have to buy the phone but for a small monthly fee many calls are free and you can call any number in any country in the world, also you can take the phone with you if you move or just go on holiday. I have put a web site up but as it is a UK one you will have to go to the select your country button on the opening page, after that you will find some information under products. Also if you want more information feel free to email me back, I have been using the service for over a year now and it is fantastic. Douglas

It's one of the countries they list, so i presume so get on their site and ask them to be sure

A teacher in Germany at a public school ( most of the schools ) needs to be a civil servant ( Beamter) to be a civil servant you need to be either a German citizen or a long term legal resident ( 8 years plus) thus there are only the few private schools which would be an option for you. Be aware you need to get the degrees recognized in most cases that is done by some tests. If you are no EU citizen additionally you will need a work visa which is not likely to get since there is no need for teachers.
2 :
Depends what passport you hold. If it's from outside the EC then you will need both a work permit and a residence permit in addition to professional qualifications. Work permits are almost impossible to obtain. The EC has over 20 million unemployed all of them are ahead of outsiders when it comes to obtaining work. I doubt the situation will improve in the foreseeable future.

You don't need a visa to go to the Netherlands on vacation, but yes to work there. The immigration laws in Holland have become very strict lately.
2 :
Knowing a little of Germany's immigration policies then you presumably have a visa on the basis of specialist skills/education which is in demand. In which case it is a similar situation in the Netherlands, and you will also need an employer to obtain a work permit on your behalf on the basis of these skills/education which prove that no-one else in the total EEA can do this job. Your German visa will not entitle you to work in the Netherlands though, so you must have a new visa for the Netherlands. Here is the info for highly skilled migrants http://www.ind.nl/en/inbedrijf/wonenenwerken/kennismigranten/index.asp which you can read and follow for the procedure including the residence wizard. My husband has a colleague/friend here in the Netherlands and actually it was not a difficult procedure because he made sure he already had all documents ready to fulfil the application requirements for him and his fiancee. Presumuing you have done this for Germany once then it should be fairly smooth runnning as long as you do the preperation and reading in advance (and of course can find a job/employer) Here are some links for finding work in English with higher level skiills/education http://www.undutchables.nl/ http://www.xpatjobs.com/home.asp (type 'English' in the trefwoord field) http://monsterboard.nl/ http://www.intermediair.nl/ Good luck

What is the number of hours a week an international student can work legally while he is studying in Germany. Does this change for the student who is studying for free?
Studying Abroad - 2 Answers

1 :
Here you go, it looks like you can! As of 2005 international students who do not come from the EU or EEA are allowed to work 90 full or 180 half days in a year. To do this they do not need authorisation from the Employment Agency, i.e. the German authorities. International students who do not come from the EU cannot go self employed or work freelance! If you want to work more than 90 full or 180 half days you need the approval of the Employment Agency and the Aliens Department. Whether you receive the approval depends on the situation of the job market in your place of study. In regions with high unemployment you will have little chance of working more than 90 days. One exception, however, is the occupation of academic or student assistant. This work can be carried out for more than 90 days. The Aliens Department must still be informed if you wish to work as an academic or student assistant! You can find more info from the link below.

Would like to purchase a Mylo 2 on base here in Germany but I am worried that I will not be able to load the battery if the power source is only 110 volts. I live in a home with 220 volts. Also, will I be able to connect wireless to the hot spots here?

Hi, you need to find out, if the Mylo can work on both voltages or if the power adaptor can be changed. I know from the Playstation 3 that it's not possible. Therefore we couldn't buy on in US to use in Germany. The only solution would be to buy an external power transformator, which is a very inconvenient thing....
2 :
If you have a power adaptor it should work fine. Europe has uses two frequencies of WiFi, but it's most likely 2.4 Ghz, which is the most common. Ask the people first to find out.

2 :
You will probably need a residence and work permit. Give your German embassy a call they will be able to advise you what you need and send you any forms required.
3 :
I'm sure if you just want to work at a grocery store they probably wouldn't need to see a work visa. Maybe a passport or something but probably not a work visa. I'm not entirely sure, however, as I have not heard of many people who would move to a new country to work in a grocery store of all places.
4 :
lynn is right that you don't need a visa - as a tourist! You need one to be able to work there and can apply for it before you go to Germany or after arriving there. You need to have a job offer first as a letter from your future employer has to go with the visa application. Ich hoffe daß Sie können deutsch sprechen, oder Sie werden nicht die Kunde verstehen!
5 :
Unless you are highly qualified in a highly demanded field you will not be able to work in a grocery store since jobs as such will be reserved for Citizens and and then European Union members before going to you. So you cannot get a visa for a store clerk.
6 :
Yes you need a work visa. Few places accept immigrants to work at a minimum wage job. Germany certainly will not as there are too many unemployed Germans and legal residents there already. Germany is very tough to immigrate to now. I know a US citizen with a masters in computer science who was offered a job in Berlin and was turned down.

Why work in Germany is limited? 400 euros...?
Hi All, I've heard that You can't work a lot in Germany. For example, if you have 2 jobs, you can't make more than 400 euros in your second job. Why is that?

Hi, that must sound confusing - and the reason it does is because it's not true, or let's say it's been simplified. The 400-euro-rule applies to so-called mini jobs. This means that, while you have to register this job with social security, your employer doesn't have to cover insurance cost for you. That makes you a desirable employee for him, of course, and minijobs are supposed to make it attractive to employers to give jobs to people they wouldn't normally give jobs to, or to establish one more post that they wouldn't establish if they had to pull the full insurance rates. Also, the job has to be short-term (there's an actual definition of this) and it's not supposed to be your actual job - more like a side-job, like stacking shelves in the evening or something. So, you can have two jobs and make as much from them as you like. But if you want your second one classified as a minijob with the benefits that come with this, then it's true you are not allowed to make more than 400 euros per month. (you're allowed to make 500 in one of the months if a colleague is sick or on holiday and covering for him)
2 :
Hi, kat is right. The 400 Euro rule only applies for jobs you don't want to pay social security fees, which are almost 20 percent of your salary, usually split by half between employer and employee.

Will a regular US-phone work in Germany

Will a regular US-phone work in Germany?
Is the basic phone technology the same, so are the tone signals compatible and will I be able to use features like voice mail and caller id? Do phone wire adapters coupling the US standard rf11-plug to the German TAE-plug exist and work fine?
Land Phones - 1 Answers

Analog telephones, answering and fax machines from other countries can normally can be used when coupled with a compatible German TAE (telephone jack) adapter. It is illegal to use most cordless telephone products from the USA here in Germany! Buy a cordless phone in Germany to assure that the device complies with local radio-frequency regulations and safety guidelines. As to voicemail and callerid: There are two general types of phone service in Germany: a "standard" analog phone service, and ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network). Each phone has similar tariffs that allow you to choose the best plan for your type of use. Discounted local and long distance calling plans are available. And features such as caller-ID, call forwarding and voice-mail are standard with either service.

who did more work in Africa Germany or Italy

who did more work in Africa Germany or Italy?
During world war 2 Germany sent Rommel and an army to Africa to help out the Italians. who really did all the work in Africa? or was it even? was Italy any help at all?
History - 5 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
The Germans were the better fighters by far and once the Germans were present the Italians weren't particularly important. The major battles were between Germany and England.
2 :
Montgomery was frustrated because his soldiers admired and talked about Rommel more than about its own commandment. Rommel was a legend in Africa between German, English and Italian soldiers. Also the british were happy when they met and fought Italians and not Germans in Africa.
3 :
Before Rommel's arrival, British forces spanked and walked all over the Italian army. And for the most part the Italian's had ten to one superiority in men and material. If Italy had been able to be effective in North Africa, Germany would have had one of the best generals in modern history along with 4 to 5 hundred thousand excellent soldiers to place elsewhere. Your answer is Germany.
4 :
The Italian army was absolutely not capable of fighting any kind of war. All they had was manpower. Everything else was absolute rubbish, supposing they had it. The rifles were the worst used in the war. The (few) tanks were laughable and worse that the rifles. The higher officers utterly unreliable. Several high ranking generals and marshalls were decorated for their work - by the Allies after the war! The soldiers were good and able soldiers, especially considering with what they had to fight. (You can't blame a man for running away if you equip him with a feather duster.) Italy was more a handicap than an asset. Without the support of the Afrika Korps, there wouldn't have been a serious war in Africa at all.
5 :
Well I guess one could say the Italians did, considering that running away through the hot desert must be real hard work.. haha Seriously, though, the Italians invaded Ethiopia, then Abyssinia, and Egypt from Libya, although after making little progress the British rallied and routed them, and after that Mussolini thought it would be wise to invade Albania and Greece, deepening Italy's crisis. Hitler saw this and offset his timeline for Barbarossa by one month by diverting troops south to smash Allied troops in the Balkan area. He then dispensed about a Panzer division to North Africa under the command of one Erwin Rommel. Rommel then proceded to rout the British, surround Tobruk, push the British out of Libya and into Egypt, all with the Italians in tow. After Alamein Rommel had to retreat west, and after being halted by Hitler he built a defensive line to halt the British, and when it was cracked near the coast the Germans and Italians were on the retreat again. In this retreat the more highly motorized British captured tens of thousands of poorly motivated and slow-moving foot troops. The Germans then set up in Tunisia where they were beaten by Operation Torch. Then Italy was invaded. After reading that I'd say Germany did more work considering without German interference the Italians would have been in sore shape by 1942.

How does public transportation work in Berlin Germany

How does public transportation work in Berlin Germany?
My knowledge of the German language is very limited. Will I be able find my way around using the subway system? Are things in English over there?
Other - Germany - 3 Answers

1 :
No the language is German over here but you will get around easily I add you a link of the public transport from Berlin they do have a site in English
2 :
The public transportion is divided into three zones: A, B, and C A and B are Berlin (the town itself) and C includes the surroundings. A standard ticket is valid for two hours within zone A+B, B+C, or A+B+C. You can take any public transport within the valid time: bus, underground (U-Bahn), tram, S-Bahn. For tourists however there are special tickets valid for several days and including reduction on entrance fees for popular sights etc. Since the soccer worldcup in 2006 the foreign language support in public transport has improved much. So you won't get problems when using English. Of course, street names etc will be im German.
3 :
I have been to Germany 3 times, each time I stayed about 3 months. My German is VERY limited. But I am able to use the bus system; I even took the train a few times. And I did use the subway and bus in Berlin, it is not that bad. I got lost once, but it worked out and I am okay. My best advice is try as best as you can to do everything in German, when this doesn't work just ask if somebody can speak English, most younger people can and they are always so friendly and kind if you are kind to them. Don’t be afraid to try and speak to them in German, and don’t be afraid to ask them if they speak English and if they can help you. You might meet some really nice people! And don't worry if you get lost, you can always find your way again.

1. English Teacher 2. Work in the city of Berlin many people can speak English there. 3. Work on one of the many American airbases that they have there (I believe the largest one is in Stuttgart, Badem-Wurtenburg) -Working on the airbase is probably her best shot considering everyone talks English there and I am sure there are plenty of jobs opened there. In fact my German teacher taught German on the American Base in Germany in order to receive his degree. Hope this helped!

First of all to work in Germany you will need a work visa unless you are an EU citizen. What I would suggest you is to study maybe at a Goethe institut where you live and later on study in Germany. When you are studying in Germany you are allowed to do some jobs I ll add the site of the German ministery read the part student visa.

How hard is it for an American au pair to get a work/residence visa in Germany

How hard is it for an American au pair to get a work/residence visa in Germany?
I want to au pair in Germany next year. I'm 18 and an American. How hard will it be to get a work permit/residence visa? How much German will they want me to know? If I go for 90 days and enroll in German language courses and then go and apply will this help my chances of them granting me a work permit? Thanks! I'm looking to au pair. I already found a hostfamily.

Firstly you have to speak German well to hold most jobs you will find there for certain so knowing the language is important even if not fluent and just really good will do you well. 90 days of classes will not teach you enough if you are starting from scratch to speak German well enough, if you already speak some and need to get better than it may help or if you are going to be able to keep learning from some one else after than maybe. I found living there the easiest way to learn it. Being emmersed into it will help you a lot. In order for a foreigner to work in Germany UNLESS you own your own company and the rules are different. You have to prove why your skill and labor is necessary over a German there. They have high unemployment in many areas, some worst than others, but you have to prove that your skill is needed. If you do not have a company there willing to vouge for you and hire you then just going and applying for them will not work for you have to have a work visa first before you can apply for work in Germany if you are living in Germany. You must have a job lined up though in order to get that Visa. Do you see the problem here now? So basically unless you have a company willing to hire you ahead of time awaiting for you to get your work permit than you will have little luck finding work or getting the permit. NOW if you operate your own business as i did when I lived there the rules are much different. Now you have to apply for a permit to operate your company there and if any of your income comes from Germany you will have to pay them taxes. If you just live there but say all your clients are in the USA as I did with my WEB Design company, I was only responsible for taxes in the USA for all the clients for from there and paid from there into a USA bank. It is not an easy way to do it and you have to already have a business that is up and running and making you money and will allow you to work from where ever you are in the world as I do with Web Design. I wish you luck, Viel Glueck, no matter what you will have a great time there!! You can always just try and sell yourself off as a TUTOR of ENGLISH to Germans part time during your stay for extra pocket money which I also did once many years ago and it was not a real job I only had three people i tutored and was paid 10 DM an hour at the time and we met three times a week for three hours so i made 270 DM a week give or take back then as pocket money during my four months stay. That is something you could do just be careful for if you make too much then you are a business and not a hobby and will have to have a license and pay taxes. I hope this is of help to you, from one American to another who has both lived and worked there and travel there nearly every year now.

It is not difficult to get an au pair visa. You won't have a hard time. You have the right age (between 17 and 25 only) The residence permit must be requested before departure at the responsible German representation abroad (that is the embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany or a regionally responsible consulate) in form of a visa. The entry visa requires the previous approval of the local authority for foreigners at the residence of the host family. The work permit is given on request by the locally responsible labor office. It presupposes the presence of a valid residence permit or their promise. You will need a valid passport for the entry and for the duration of the stay intended. In Germany aupairs are paid 260€/month, for 30 hours of work per week, and all transportation and Visa costs are the responsibility of the Aupair. You need basic knowledge of German- you don't have to speak it fluent, because- going there to learn german is the whole purpose anyway.... Wherever you live, just google up the closest german embassy or consulate in order to get your visa started. Good luck!
3 :
You should be able to talk some German and there are Agency which will place you as an Au Pair. Their will handle your VISA, match you with the right Family Here is the Name of one of them: www.Aupairworld.net emal: support@aupairword.net Telephone:English Language- 49-560 39178 17 between 8:00am and 5:00pm European Time Greetings from Seattle(I am a Native from Hamburg)
4 :
Just contact the German embassy in Washington for the details of the Au Pair visa. While it is generally so that US-citizens can just fly over to Germany and apply for the necessary work and residency permits once they are there, as an Au-Pair must do this while you are still in the US. Andrea's answer is very good, I would have written the same if she hadn't been faster.
5 :
Rosetta Stone and Rocket German are great Language Software courses to get you off to a great start. Also, try to get your employers to have a copy of whatever contract you may have so the Government will know that you're making money. Another option for you regarding staying in Germany to work, since there are quite a few US military bases, is to try for what's called Logistical Support. You can work on "Post" (Base) for 20 hours /week to get your Fosa Stamp on your Passport and a Military ID card which will get you permission to stay in Germany on the US's behalf. The Cons: - Not the greatest PT work or pay and they'll probably want hours that you may not want to give. They know that you need what they have, though so you may be at their mercy if you work for someone with a chip on their soldier. Most of the people I've met are pretty nice though. :) - Forms out the wazoo. Minor annoyance but worth noting - Military family members get job preference over you so might want to get hooked up with a friend in the military who can help move the process along For these few Cons you have a pretty hefty bunch of Pros which include: - Shopping at Base PX. American products at american prices and no german taxes to deal with. - Access to american movie theaters so you can see English titles not long after they come out in the states. - You can make BIG purchases in Germany by getting a form on base and then handing the German's that form so you can, yet again, get out of paying German taxes. - The best part is if you plan on driving. Buying your gas on base...AT AMERICAN PRICES. Gas is horrendously expensive in Germany (and most of Europe for that matter) so many people say this perk alone is worth the PT hours. Best of luck! :)

About the only ATT thing I have seen here in Germany is the calling cards and they are not that inexpensive. For a cell telephone, they are inexpensive to purchase, you can pick one up at the PX for $22. For calling the states, you may be best to get one of the units that plug into the computer that gives you a stateside number. I have heard that Vonage is good and Magic Jack is supposed to have a good deal but I have not heard how good it is. For the normal telephone and internet I have tried a few and have been satisfied with 1&1 flat rate for the past couple of years. I would not recommend either Freenet or the normal Telekom. When you get here, you will need to look over the various systems but as stated above, ATT you can basically forget about. Edit: with a cell phone it will depend on the phone itself. Here you can get them with 2-3-4 bands to be able to use them in other countries but for the most part the differance in calling charges make it more logical just to buy one here, either an inexpensive one with a prepaid calling card or a contract. It is all a matter of personal preferance.

As for using your cell phone from the states, it depends on the phone itself and if it has compatible bandwidth. The use of it here over time with the US provider would probably cost more. Even a good cell phone here can be found at a reasonable price. The one from the PX is a simple Nokia one with a Vodaphone SIM card. I have a similar one as a second phone and have used Vodaphone for over 10 years with less problems than others I know with other providers.
5 :
Go there with a tourist visa, find a job. Then apply for long term visa. After many years, you can apply for citizenship. Details you get from Konsulat oder Botschaft der BRD.

It is going to be hard to find employment only for the summer and getting a work visa might be difficult as well. Try and apply at German summer camps. The organization hosting the camp might be able to help you with the work permit, while you child would be able to attend the camp while you're working. Hope this helps.
