Is it OK for me to physically discipline my dog? My cousin in Germany who work for the circus say that he use

Is it OK for me to physically discipline my dog? My cousin in Germany who work for the circus say that he use?
the whip on his animals and even large, aggressive animals obey him. My dog just won't listen to me. Do you think the belt will work. My wife doesn't agree. Should I listen to my wife or my cousin?
Dogs - 15 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Eh, belt is a bit harsh. A firm correction - a tap, tug of the collar. Try those first. That doesn't work, consult a trainer
2 :
Listen to your wife. Abusing a dog will not help it at all but will cause mental & physical damages. You need be patient, and to consult a trainer, or rehome your dog if you think that whipping a dog will be a solution.
3 :
do not use the whip that is just cruel!!!!!! the belt is cruel to but if you must physically abuse him use your hand and slap his butt, dogs can become very afraid and aggressive from animal abuse! your dog just needs patience!
4 :
You can use a tap on the nose or a pinch on the ear but wipping your dog won't help and what your cousin doesn't tell you is that circus animals have the most cruel life of any animal. They regularly turn on their handlers because they are so severely mistreated. You're dog doesn't listen to you because you probably aren't asserting your dominance or being consistent with him. Hire a trainer, or sign up for obedience class. Your belt will do no good, and if that's the only conclusion you can come up with, maybe you should reconsider having a dog.
5 :
Never hit a dog. try a trainer. it is illegal to be mistreating a dog like that. you can get a fine of 500 dollars or even jail time.
6 :
Um..........your wife of course. It is never ever necessary to hit your dog. They have a natural tendency to want to please humans. When you correct your dog, do not yell. Try to use his name with praise and bad dog not his name when appropriate. Short training times and good treats such as hot dog pieces or chicken are great aids. Never call your dog over to you to correct him. Your hands should be for petting and praise. A dog that for example peed in the house 15 minutes ago does not know why you are yelling at him now. Even if you show it to him. Leave the whips for the lion tamers.
7 :
For the love of God, listen to your wife!!! Talk to a dog behaviorist for some help in getting your dog to listen to you. You can talk to one for free here: http://www.anticruelty.org/site/epage/36623_576.htm You can call or e-mail. I have e-mailed them with my problems before and they respond promptly with great, personalized advice that actually works!
8 :
there's a HUGE difference between the animals in a circus and a family dog. Your dog doesn't listen because: 1) you show anger at him 2) you aren't alpha pack leader 3) you use inconsistent or bad methods Your wife is absolutely right. In a home situation like yours, using a whip or other similar methods is ABUSE and totally uncalled for. -!-
9 :
NO of course it is not ok i don't even think it's ok for you to own a dog
10 :
I think that a good hard slap on the behind with the flat of your palm will suffice, you should not use a belt. Belts leave welts and emotional scars. When you slap a dog, you are spanking it as you would a child who has grown disrespectful. Also, you need to look at your leadership skills. i'm not talking about giving a managerial speech, I'm talking about not backing down or giving mixed messages. I'm also talking about not tempting your dog with unattended food on the table. I've found slapping works because it is something that your dog cannot do to you back. I've heard some people say that biting or simulating a bite on the ear wth your fingernails is the best way, but then you teach your dog to bite when it's mad. Not good.
11 :
UM LISTEN TO YOUR WIFE. Why do you think most of those animal turn on their trainers. They get tired of being abused. Should never use physical discipline on any animal.
12 :
you should listen to your wife you never hit your dog that will only make them fear you and you dont want that.
13 :
and that's exactly why some circus animals go berserk after a while. they get tired of getting beaten to death. negative reinforcement is exactly what it is, negative. you can and will get charge for animal abuse if you do this and people know about it.
14 :
Absolutely not, now you see dogs are brilliant creatures, so if you say to them, "Now dogy, dont do that" they will be like "OK!, master!"
15 :
Ever heard of a group call the Cat Dancers or Roy Horn? professional animal trainers got killed or injured by the animals that they train. So the answer is don't hit your dog.

When can I get my work permit in Germany

When can I get my work permit in Germany?
I was in Germany until August as a volunteer. After I wanted to stay there as a normal worker. I have found a place where I can work. They asked for work permit, but I did not get it, because I am from hungary, and we have membership with EU later as Germany, Italy, England or Holland. I know, that maybe until 2011 I have to ask for work permit, because I have to wait for the time, when Germany let the hungarian people to work without. But maybe Germany let us before... But when? Has somebody information? 19 hours ago - 3 days left to answer. - 0 answers - Report It The reason why, because I am working in the social sector, and in Germany there are lot of worker who work as a social worker and social pedagogist. Ich war beim Arbeitsamt, und sie haben das gesagt, dass ich darf nicht in Deutschland arbeiten weil es gibt viel Sozialpadagogin und sozialarbeiter(in) in Deutschland. I was at the office which responsible for the work for foriners, and they said that I cannot stay to work in Germany 'coz there are a lof of social worker and social pedagogist in Germany. I worked in this school before one year as a volunteer, so I knew everything about the methods or how the day goes and about the children, and that is why I was better than a new german worker and that is why they wanted to take me not as a volunteer but a normal worker. But the german office do not care, they said that the school need a german worker anyway.

I think, if they need somebody with the job you have, you will get work permit before 2011. I have seen people from East Europe, 2004 in one EU country and they have got work permit. They were not member of EU then.

You should contact the local Arbeitsamt. They can register you, and perhaps advise you on this.

The German government has issued a restriction on all new EU citizens which does not allow them to work in Germany without a work permit in Germany until 2011. a regular training is called "Ausbildung" and consists of usually 3 years hands-on training while being employed as an apprentice in a company. Half of that time is approx. to be spent in a school focussing on relevant subjects. The name of that school is "Berufsschule". If you look for more sophisticated education there is a dual system for Studying while working for a company in parallel called: "Duale Ausbildung" or "Ausbildung im dualen System". It is mostly offered in combination with Colleges (Fachhochschule) in southern Germany (Baden-Württemberg has a prime lead role here). Hope that helps

Am writer, but would like to work in Germany...?
I am a relatively well-off fiction writer. I know in order to live in Germany, for me, I have to get a work visa issued by a company. I'm employed by an American publication house, but would like to move out to Germany to be closer to my niece (who is a student there). Could I consider myself self-employed? What if my books have been translated and are distributed by a German publication house? Could they provide me with a work visa in order to stay? Any help is appreciated. Thank You!

Hi, if you want to work as an employee in Germany then you need a work visa. In your case, this would not be necessary, but on the other hand, you can only stay up to 3 months as a tourist. Nevertheless, there are possibilites to get a one year or more years tourist visa in "certain" cases. These certain cases are up to the embassy/consulate to decide, if they want to grant you the visa. You definitely need to go to your nearest German consulate and ask them about your options. What helps is to show, that you have a job and income in your country, that your employer agrees that you can work from someplace else, that you have enough money to support your stay in Germany, that you are willing to go back after a certain time. http://www.inside-munich.com/germany-work-student-visa.html
2 :
If you can find a job than your visa will be OK right a way, but first you need to find a publisher translating your books in German language and you can work and stay in Germany. Check on google about the publisher in Germany and contact them. Every year is in Frankfurt/M., first week in October, is a huge international Book Fair you can go there and check out. I worked in Frankfurt in Schoolbooks publishing company more than 13 years. Book Fair is very interesting. Good Luck for you.
3 :
Interesting question! First, it depends on your nationality. If you are US-citizen you can always get a temporay residence permit (Aufenthaltserlaubnis) even after you came to Germany with a tourist visa: "Staatsangehörige (...) der Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika können (...) einen erforderlichen Aufenthaltstitel auch nach der Einreise einholen. " ( http://www.auswaertiges-amt.de/diplo/de/… ) and even get a working permit (Arbeitserlaubnis): "Staatsangehörigen von (...)den Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika kann die Zustimmung zu einem Aufenthaltstitel zur Ausübung einer Beschäftigung erteilt werden." ( http://www.aufenthaltstitel.de/beschv.ht… ) If you know some German, the best idea is to study the "Aufenthaltsgesetz" (AufenthG) and the "Beschäftigungsverordnung" (BeschV). It is important to know that one basic principle of German law is the case by case rule. You will see that most paragraphs contain the German verb "können" (can). Since you can prove that you are able to sustain yourself economically, the biggest hurdle doesn't exist. I would talk to an immigration laywer who will manage the application process with the administration ("Ausländerbehörde" of the city where you intend to take residence). It is perhaps not advisable to talk to them directly, since they normally deal with rather unwanted aliens. But your question was, if being employed as a writer outside Germany but actually writing in Germany is considered working there and if you can get a working visa for that purpose. That will only be necessary if you actually intend to pay income taxes in Germany. If you pay your income taxes in the US and do not intend to use any social benefits including public health insurance, I would say no (though I am not sure). You only need a residence permit. Should problems occur, one solution could be the status of a "foreign correspondent" which means you would be regarded as a journalist send by your publisher.

yes you can consider yourself as self employed. you only have to proof the officials that you can support yourself. I would rather recommend you to leave Germany after 90 days for one day to England and comeback after that for another 90 days. so you are considered as a tourist and do not have to bother at all

hulu doesnt work here. most legal american streams are blocked. as for torrent.. it works fine^^ i use american torrents most of the time, plenty of seeds for every torrent are located in Germany also. Ps: dont download illegal stuff when in bavaria its the only state that prosecutes private pirates. for german tv i would recommend dvb-tv, if you want american tv you have to try cardsharing via d-box.(its legal in germany) there are some shops in germany specialized in modding the hardware. they also modd all kinds of game consoles to play copies and region free. they do buisness trough internet only most of the time. but torrent is best in my opinion.

Do DVDs purchased in Germany work on American DVD players

Do DVDs purchased in Germany work on American DVD players?

Home Theater - 7 Answers

1 :
Can't say for sure, but I'm willing to bet money that you can do that. A couple yrs ago, I took my American laptop to the Netherlands and watched a DVD that I bought over there, so I would expect that you would have the same results
2 :
most dvd players can be reconfigured to play dvds from other countries. read your manual.
3 :
if the dvd isnt region locked then it should work fine, if it is, then you can break that region lock so it can work
4 :
Yes and no. For the most part it will work on a computer DVD player but most types that work with your TV will not work their are some that will do so but you would have to check your manual.
5 :
Only if you set the region code from your dvd player to the dvd’s region code. You can only set the region code 3 or 4 times depending on your player. The cheapest solution is to buy a second dvd player (the cheapest one you can find will do) and set it to the region code from the dvd country and leave it. Go to this website it will explain the different region codes http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD_region_code Have fun watching the German dvd’s. I hope this helps. Viel spass noch.
6 :
Debatable if you will be able to play a German DVD on your DVD player. Each DVD is encoded with a Region Code (the DVD case will have the corresponding Region Code printed on it). US DVDs and players use Region 1 coding. German DVDs use Region 2 coding. In order for your DVD player to be able to play a European disk, it would need to support Region 0 or 2 coding (Region 0 indicates that the player supports ALL regions). Some players do support multiple regions but you cannot assume that yours would. The best thing would be to check your user's manual or contact the manufacturer. Laptops can sometimes play DVDs that might not be playable on commercial DVD players as the DVD software allows changing the region coding a few times.
7 :
Do people on this site EVER bother to check the archives? This question has been asked and answered at least a dozen times.... Region coding is only HALF of the issue with international DVD's. Different countries use different video encoding formats; NTSC (USA), PAL (Europe), and SECAM (Asia). You need to check which format the disc is encoded in and make sure your player and tv can accomodate it. 99% of laptops and computers can hadle this because they do video conversions anyway- but consumer electronics devices are more hit and miss.

Well, to have to pay taxes in Germany, you need a "Sozialversicherungsausweis" (social insurance pass). How you get that, though... I have no idea if you would even get it, since, like oyu say, you are only going to be in Germany for 6 months. And I got mine shiped to me when I was 14 (since I'm German. They do that). Tax system in Germany is somewhat complicated and depends on which tax class you are belonging to. And that depends on how old you are, wether you are married or not, what tax class your partner is in, if you are married, whether you have children, how much children you have... Contact the German embassy. They can answer your questions in detail.

I agree with nowhereman, use google, yahoo or maybe webcrawler. If I were you I would ask my relatives in Germany for help. Cheers
3 :
there are different ways: 1) getting hired by a german company 2) come for studying... students are allowed to work up to a certain time/salary limit 3) come as an au pair Number 2 is good, because you are more free than as an au-pair and once you are a student, it is easy to renew the VISA and you can look for a permanent job while studying, but without a degree it will be difficult for the employer to justify your stay... only if no Germans can be found for the same job, your employer will be able to help you. One way is to put skills into the job description that Germans don´t have (e.g. fluent in vietnames language, spoken and written) or to make a job description that makes it look very inattractive for Germans to apply for the job.

My contract is up in a year and now I don't know if I'm going to re-enlist because this could change my life in a different way. I wanted to get some advice and some knowledge about my options before I present this to my unit. Thanks!

You can be excused from a few weekends for hardship, but the for the main training weeks, you will have to fly back. However many commanders would prefer to call it a day. They will arrange for you to report to a base in germany for your weekends, with the understanding you will not reenlist. However, if they really like you there are all kinds of deal deals going on. Look at what happened to Bush. Bush accidentally forgot to take his physical, dropping him from the flight line. That opened up a position for a real fighter pilot returning from vietnam. In exchanged for going quietly, they transferred him to Alabama when he moved there. Note, if you report to a base in Germany, you will have PX privileges. I have heard guys talking, and this may be huge.

Less and less German Shepherd dogs. Germans have been forced to use more and more imported dogs for their police force. These are mostly Malinois from Holland and Belgium and a few German Shepherds from the Czech Republic. The German Police facilities that sponsor their own breeding programs (i.e. Northrhine-Westfalia) have had a 90% success rate in placing their litters of Malinoise into police work and only a 60% rate in placing German Shepherds (with the actual number is probably closer to 30% after first year wash outs). "We need a working dog and not a family dog," say the dog trainers. They demand hardness, courage, fight drive and a "certain natural sharpness."

Well considering even the grocery stores have internships and require at least realschule, I doubt you will find much. Probably limited to thinks like Mcdonalds, or gas stations. Maybe a mini job for 400 euro a month. I would go back to school here and complete your studies if you want to build a successful future.
2 :
You should try to become an Azubi, get an apprenticeship. Look for "Ausbildungsplatz". With your current education you can only get menial jobs, cleaning toilets, carrying newspapers or helping at the supermarket if you are lucky. The pay is very bad, chances are high you'll have to apply for social welfare to make ends meet. Since you do not have a Realschulabschluss you might have to attend a Berufsschule to get it. This usually takes a year or two and is combined with lessons that will help you find a job. You can apply for BaföG money if you want to attend such a school. http://www.freenet.de/freenet/finanzen/jobs/arbeiten/perspektiven/bvj/02.html A little bit more demanding than the "Berufsvorbereitende Jahr" is the "Berufsgrundbildungsjahr". Do a search with these terms plus the name of the city where you intend to live in Germany and something should come up.
3 :
If your everyday use of the German language is the same as you use the English one, sorry dude, forget your career. You should really watch your language a little bit more, but you're 17, you say, so you're forgiven. And be glad that this is the internet, so you're anonymous. Don't never ever ask a question like this on Xing or Facebook with your real name beside it. Got me?
4 :
Since you are not yet 18 you are not alowed to work full time. Also without any diploma you will have no chance for any reasonable job.
5 :
First of all this question has no relation with travel Germany so it is in the wrong place. You are still considered a minor with 17 so there is NO full time job for you available. To get a full time job you need to be 18 that is required by law! Also with no diploma you will not find any reasonable job you are able to live on.

Will a US Ipod Nano work in Germany

Will a US Ipod Nano work in Germany?
I want to buy my little sister a nice gift for Christmas and she lives in Germany. I thought of an Ipod Nano but I'm not sure if it works with German computers as far as syncing and charging is concerned. Any ideas?
Music & Music Players - 7 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Yes, syncing will work just fine. Charging will work fine too if she always charges the iPod through the USB cable or dock plugged into the computer. The only thing that might be a problem is an external charger. It should take the higher German voltage okay (read the power requirements on the box), but you'd need an adapter for the plugs. If she's living in Germany she may already have the right adapter.
2 :
It will work. The computers in Germany are the same and have the same USB interface used by the iPod.
3 :
yes probably u will hve 2 buy different pins for charging it in germany but otherwise yes it will
4 :
It'll work for sure my ipod worked.
5 :
Synching with the computer won't be a problem, but check the voltage on any AC adaptor. Most are autovolt these days and are rated from 100 - 240 VAC. If that's the case she'll need an adaptor to plug it in but those are easy to find in Europe. If it's rated at 110 VAC only then she'll need to buy an AC adaptor over there. They're not too expensive, but it is something to consider.
6 :
Yes, they will. The standard is the same as the United States. And Microsoft has an enormous beautiful glass building in central Berlin that serves as its European Headquarters, and is a huge tourist attraction. The only differences are in service. Kabel Deutschland provides broadband to major cities like Berlin but the rest of the nation relies on DSL, usually provided by T-Online. Most things will not need adapters but they are cheap and readily available if you do.
7 :
yes, it works

It should be fine... Just make sure your adapter is rated for the power consumption of the laptop (200 watts should be more than enough... probably closer to 100, but the extra "margin of error" never hurts to keep the power source "clean") Be careful if you plug into a phone line though!

It will be possible. Here are a lot illegal Africans working here. But it will be hard to survive. But if you are one of the top players in industrie there will be no problem getting a high rated job here. Frohe Weihnachten from Hamburg,Germany Heinz
5 :
Why sure... you can just go there and they will be waiting at the border to hire you because they don't need any more german speaking people.. you will be hired on the spot.
6 :
Yes at a Turkish Donner place !
7 :
Yes but I would not recommend it!!
8 :
It all depends what kind of job you want to have. It is posible but only for jobs other people don'T want to work in so it is rather not recomandable.
9 :
No. Depending upon the kind of work you can start without knowing any German, but in the long run you'll be forced to learn German. It is simply a matter of necessity. It is very difficult to deal with everyday live in Germany if you do not speak any German. It is also very difficult to find a job, since the large majority of jobs require at least some basic knowledge of the local language. Most importantly: The German Office for Foreigners (Ausländerbehörde) will not allow you to become a legal long-term resident if you cannot prove basic knowledge of German. They can force you to attend lessons in German if you don't. This question will come up when you apply for a residency permit.
10 :
As an English speaker. You can pick something up at an Airport, teaching English or depending on your background check doing security at an Amerícan Army base. Berlitz hires native speakers on a constant basis and Ponds Security Service hires regularly. Dealing with the German Alien and Labor office you'll need to bring someone as a translator. They can only speak German to you. Viel Gluck.
11 :
If you are a US citizen you can get a job with the US military
12 :
Let's be honest: No! Although a lot of Germans speak English nowadays, or other foreign languages, the only official language is German, no matter where you work. If you are IN the military you may get away with it, but you're not considered working on German territory. If you work FOR the military, as a civilian hire, you still have to speak German. Everything else is nonsense. To work in a hotel or as an English teacher you need to have some German knowledge, period.
13 :
Only for the Military Bases. You need to look at the Government jobs for overseas. If you are teacher, nurse, manager, doctor you can find jobs easy.
14 :
Yes it is possible. But I think you will rather learn some German. My Boyfriend is American and he works for an American company. He don´t need German for his Job but he have problems like, many people in the company are German and he don´t understand what they say cause they sometimes speak German in the office or during the break time. So I think learning German will be better and will help you to become integrated in Germany. Good look

Will a DVD purchased from Germany work in American DVD players or do they have a different format

Will a DVD purchased from Germany work in American DVD players or do they have a different format?

Other - Germany - 4 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
No, it most likely won't (unless labelled region free which is not that common). Most DVDs have a region code that restricts it to being watched only on DVD players of this particular region. The USA, Canada etc. are region 1, whereas Europe [including Germany] and most parts of Asia are region 2. So, if there's the possibility of ordering a region free copy of this DVD, it'll all be just fine otherwise it, I'm afraid, won't work. Hope it helped.
2 :
No, but you can watch it on your Computer.Thats how I do it.
3 :
Unless it is a universal DVD, it will more than likely not work. PAL 2 does not work in US.
4 :
normally no its regional coded unless its not formatted...it does work though if it is either porn or if it was purchased on an american army post.

Will a DVD purchased from Germany work in American DVD players or do they have a different format

Will a DVD purchased from Germany work in American DVD players or do they have a different format?

Other - Germany - 5 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
DVDs generally have different "regions". The US and Germany are in different regions. So, it won't work, unless either the DVD specifically says on the cover that it is regionless (plays in all regions) or your DVD player has been hacked to play DVDs of all regions. It would probably be illegal for me to tell you how to do the 2nd thing, so I won't...but it is possible for some DVD players.
2 :
American DVD players, unless region 0, are region 1. German DVD's are region 2. German DVD's will also be in the PAL picture format, as compared to NTSC for American DVD's. That said, if you have a region 0 DVD player, that will read both NTSC and PAL, and output either as NTSC, you can do it. If you bought the DVD player in the US, it's highly unlikely that it is region 0. You can find out the region by looking at the back or bottom of the player. There should be a small picture of a globe with a number in it. The number will tell you the region of the player. If it is region 0, then you go into video set-up in the DVD player menu, and look for video format, this will tell you whether it accepts both PAL and NTSC, or just NTSC. If it accepts both, check for the output format. If the player will output in either format, regardless of input format, then you can play the DVD.
3 :
It is now possible to buy DVD players that play DVDs from all regions....so it depends on your dvd player...even at Walmart. THe U.S. region is # 1...so either you must have an all-region dvd player, or the dvd needs to say on the back that it can be played in region 1.
4 :
no here in Germany and in all of Europe we all have different format for our DVDs and in American it is different with ours i know because I've tried and my DVD player can't read American format...♥
5 :
Look in the internet if your DVD player is codefree. My player plays all formats.

How do beer gardens in Germany work

How do beer gardens in Germany work?
How do they differ from regular restaurants? Is there any etiquette that I should be mindful of?

Like a pub, but you sit outside in the garden. (weather permitting). Peace.
2 :
Nope, you just seat and wait for somebody to come and take your order. The only etiquette is the same as everywhere in the world, be polite to the staff and to other customers and don't be raucous.
3 :
Well it's like a garden where you can drink real good beer and eat sausages and other German food. It's really nice if you're out with friends and if the sun is shining.
4 :
I was recently watching a Rick Steves program on PBS. He was on vacation in Germany and went to a beer garden with a friend. Apparently a Beer Garden is an old German tradition. Friends meet up in the evening, listen to music, talk and drink beer. There is simple German food that you can buy and the portions were huge! What I did not know is that you can also bring your own food to go along with the beer that you purchase. As the evening goes on the place does get rowdy and many younger people get very loud. As an American traveling to Germany I would absolutely have to go to a beer garden to experience that. It looks like a lot of fun.
5 :
and the food will be secondary, but having said that, the wursts and other kinds of sausage, potatoes, and salads will be pretty yummy. The food in Frankfurt is outstanding, for example, with special local dishes in an amazing green herb sauce. Also famous for their Black Forest cake, of course... Expect to eat heartily, and cheaply. And work out the sizes of the steins in the biergarten before you go-the Germans always snigger at the Americans who gesture "large" and nearly keel over trying to lift the stein when it comes, because they have ordered a litre (33 ounces! -gets pretty flat unless you are a FAST drinker) (it can be the same in Italy, BTW!) http://www.deutscheshaus.cc/html/library_beer_steins/sizes_of_steins.html Enjoy!

This does not mean it is not possible, just more difficult. I hope this has been useful to you.

How many hours per week can an international student work in Germany?
I am planning to study abroad in Germany and want to know how many hours per week can an international student work. And how is the job market for part timers in Germany. Thanks you very much for your time.
Studying Abroad - 1 Answers

Not hours a week, exchange students get 90 working days for the duration of their studies in Germany. If you were an international degree-seeking student, going to get your degree there you could get up to 20 hours per week, but exchange students only get the 90 working days, and there is probably an hour limit in there somewhere as well. You will have to speak German near fluently to work there, unless you are tutoring English or something like that. Business have to do a load of paperwork to hire international students, and most will not mess with it.

Americans can visit Germany for tourism for up to 90 days without a visa. Americans may not work while there under those circumstances. If you wish to legally reside and work in Germany, you will require specific authorization. You may apply for your residence and work permit while remaining in Germany as a visitor, but you are not allowed to work until after the work and residence permit applications have been approved.
