I applied for a couple jobs for AAFES and never got anything back, so i went to the Store Manager today and she told me that AAFES wouldnt hire me because im german and the would have to pay me Euros, no matter if i was a Spouse or not! That kinda confused me because theres more german's working here on post!

Hello Angela, You have to go apply to AAFES on-base to learn the answer to that. The Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) specifies employment of local national civilians. The US guarantees so many jobs to German civilians in part for allowing a US military base to be stationed on their home territory. So, your status as a spouse of an American military man and being a German national yourself has special connotations. Yes you could, that is if they hire you as a "local national." Lately its hard to get in as one since the HRO office prefers American Spouses because they are cheaper. As a German they would have to pay in Euros at a higher hourly salary and give you all the benefits including Medical Insurance. It also depends on the base. Where I am at they just hired 3 Germans because all the soldiers came back from their Deployment and they were hurting on ppl. What you could try is apply for a position in the Food Court first. Cause once your "in" its easier to move around within AAFES, that is if you don't mind working in a Dining Facility, But it helps you make a name for yourself, and its easier to work yourself up as supervisor, and THAT you could use on your application from the HRO, also, the dining facility can write you a letter of recommendation which always looks good on any resume.
