You'd need to find a job on base that's open to "state-side hires." You are not eligible to be a local hire." http://www.jobbankusa.com/FederalJobs/federal-government-jobs-in-europe.html
2 :
You either need to get a Civil Service job at http://www.usajobs.gov or with one of the contract companies (Boeing, Northrop Grumman, Raytheon, L-3, etc.). At that point, you'd be your own sponsor.

In order to get a work permit, you need to be married to a German citizen or be the child of one. If that's not the case you have no basis for an immigrant or work visa.
2 :
Hello Jessica, You do not state what your nationality is; if you are British you can just move over there, register yourself with the local authorities, etc. If you are American, here's a web page that gives you pretty much the rundown. Good Luck!

You will probably need adapters that travelers use when traveling to diffent countries. I suggest posting this question in the travel section to find out just what adapter you will need for Germany.

of course since it's in the eu though I'm not sure about university but i myself lived in amsterdam and my dad with a british passport worked there for several years.
2 :
Being a European Union citizen he can live, study, and work in Gemany without the need to get permits. He just needs to comply with the law applying to German citizens. http://ec.europa.eu/eures/main.jsp?catId=8105&acro=living&lang=en&parentId=7745&countryId=DE&living= Based on your additional question: He will need to get registered at his place of residence (same as in Belgium), and he will need to obtain a Social Security Card (Sozialversicherungsausweis) and a Tax Identification Number (TIN) before he can start working in Germany..
3 :
Yes. Both countries are members of the EU so a Belgian has the absolute right to live, work and study in Germany. He will need to register with local authorities in Germany once he is working - that's German law - but his Belgian passport is all he needs.

I want to move to Berlin, Germany... where should I look for work
I want to move to Berlin, Germany... where should I look for work?
I'm a single mother trying to find work in Germany, I am a native German. I don't want to work for a private corporation because I've heard that they fire ppl a lot, and as i said I'm a single mother who sometimes needs to take off work. So do you know the names of some government corporations? I would be good as some sort of Secretary. I don't have a college degree, I'm in my late 30's.

I would suggest, especially for your situation where you need flexibility, that you sign on with Manpower in Berlin. Manpower has a huge presence in Germany. You could get work right away.
2 :
Well, you mention you don't have a college degree and that you "would be good" as a secretary. Do you have some sort of apprenticeship? Have you ever worked in Germany? I gather, since you say you are a native German, that you speak both English and German fluently, which should give you an advantage. As for looking for jobs: Try monster.de, jobsector,... even do consider job share companies. State institutions are not better than private corporations nowadays. Most people on "lower" levels (secretaries, people just starting their carreer there, or people left over after thelatests round of "verbeamtung") are just employees like the rest of us, with just the same level of job security. Of course, there is always the "Arbeitsamt" or the "Agentur für Arbeit", as it is called now. Needless to say, right now it is very difficult to find a job. Berlin, Munich, Frankfurt, the usual suspects to find jobs, are also the places most people turn to right now. Anyway, good luck!
3 :
Have a look at website Kijiji/Berlin.de they advertise tons of jobs. I think it is best to visit Berlin a few times and decide on a place to live and then apply at the local Arbeitsampt. You are a native German, so you should have no problems!
4 :
In the link below you will find a number of jobs in public service in Berlin. There are two or three jobs for secretaries, but they require you at least to have finished an apprenticeship for Buerokauffrau etc.
5 :
If you ever umemployed, take a look here www.2bcu.info/jobonline and theres a high chance you'll find the right job.

sorry to said chance is O.German working visa is hard to apply.especially ur not an citizen of ECC. not to mention on top of so many german now out of worked.
2 :
Best you can do is try and apply for one but as said above they are really picky and you have to PROVE your trade and skill is needed there or they will not give you one. IF you have a company that WANTS to hire you they can assist you in getting a visa but that would be your best bet is getting the potential employers help with it.
3 :
Depends upon your field of expertise. They do not give visa to people who want to work in shops or do construction work or similar. Generally the German government gives only work visa to people who have a university degree in IT or electrical engineering and even these applications get often denied.
4 :

How do I obtain an EU passport? I am a US citizen looking for work in Germany.
My great grandfather came from Germany. I understand that in order to obtain an EU passport you need to be able to prove your family came from Germany or other EU country. However, I'm not sure if Great-Grandfather qualifies...due to it being so long ago.

I do not think you qualify but do you realize that you would have to give up your US citizenship?
2 :
Great-grandfather does not qualify. Also the below answer is incorrect; you would not lose your US citizenship by accepting nationality of an EU member state. So how do you obtain an EU passport? Marry and EU national and wait a number of years, depending on your country of residence.
3 :
You would have to try to get a work permit in Germany and then live there for 8 years before you can apply for citizenship. You also have to speak German which you probably would by then as well as you would have to fill some other requirements. You would have to renounce your US citizenship to get a German one. The member countries of the EU all have their own laws. Some will allow dual citizenship and some not. Germany will not.

Does the cell phone work in germany?
I wanted to send an old celll phone that I don't use anymore to my family in Germany because somebody there needs it. I am wondering if it will work there if they use their own sim card since its a US phone. Thanks

They (or you) would have to get the device unlocked so any SIM could be used in it. Once that's done, it should work fine for calls and texts.
2 :
The phone would have to be unlocked from its US carrier AND it would have to be capable of using GSM 900/1800 MHz. As 850/1900 MHz is used in the US, unless your phone is a quadband phone, it won't work in Germany.

What kind of converter do I need in order for my US Wii to work in Germany?
I just bought a Wii from the states and moved to Germany for work. I used a converter and it sparked so I quickly pulled it out. The AC adapter to the Wii looked like it got fried a little. I don't know if the Wii got messed up too. What do you think? It wasn't on... I was wondering what I need other then the converter that I bought, I guess I got the wrong one. Can anyone tell me the exact one to buy? Much Mahalo!!!

You need a power supply that can work with 220 V alternating current at 50 Hz. The plug should either be a "Schuko" ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schuko ) or a "Europlug" ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Europlug ). There are convenient travel adapters that can change the shape of the physical plug, but you need to make sure that your power supply can deal with 220 V AC/50 Hz. American electricity is about 110 V AC at 60 Hz.

You have to get a transformer, they have a higher voltage there if you going over there due to parents being in the military , the military rents out the transformer boxes to use American electronics. The plugs are very different from ours here in the US and also different in voltage.
2 :
ide check if you buy anythign abroad normally totally different software
3 :
The first commentor is correct about the voltage and plug differences. Also, the games are region locked, so you won't be able to buy any games in Germany. You'd have to order them online from the US.

you may have to find a power adapter to correct for the wrong AC coming from your 120Hz outlet to the system. Try searching on ebay for a US to UK power outlet converter? Sorry if this did not help.

It should.. same voltages, same video standard (PAL) and same region if it's region coded. Region 2. edit: the adapter needed would be one for the power cord. The pin layout in the UK is different from the one in Germany.
2 :
I don't think you will need any adaptors. Wii games are region coded for Japan, America, and Europe. Since the UK shares the same region as Germany it should work just fine!

It is not really the plug you need to worry about, it is the appliance. If it is a 120V heating appliance (including hairdryers), you can use a solid state one rated for such. They will be 1600W or so, and pretty light weight. Most of the size is a heat sink, used to dissipate heat generated by the converter electronics, which play with the wave form to approximate 120V power in a way heating appliances can accept, but electronics cannot which is why: For electronics, fluorescent and LED lighting, and motorized appliances, you need to use an iron based converter transformer, which changes the 240v to 120V, keeping the waveform intact (and at 50 Hz, which often doesn't matter. Travel store will sell them at around a 50 watt rating, but you can get them larger from some specialty stores. Some more modern electronics will have universal or dual voltage supplies, in which case need only a plug adapter or German style cord. For either type of converter, you likely need the proper plug or adapter to use it where you are going. It will have a 120V receptacle.

Do you need a degree to work in Germany
Do you need a degree to work in Germany?
I'm considering a move to Berlin but don't have much in the way of qualifications and would really like to learn German (I'm British). So would I need a degree to get a job there (nothing much, just something to feed me and pay the rent while I learn the language)? Also, what level should my German be before coming over? Many thanks!

You should speak german on a good level. It depends from the level and type of job if you will need a degree. If you will become a cleaner you will not need, if you become a job in a bank it's not a must but it is common usage, if you would like to practice as a medical doctor it is a must by law.

Can i as a German, Military Spouse, stationed in Germany work for AAFES?
I applied for a couple jobs for AAFES and never got anything back, so i went to the Store Manager today and she told me that AAFES wouldnt hire me because im german and the would have to pay me Euros, no matter if i was a Spouse or not! That kinda confused me because theres more german's working here on post!

Hello Angela, You have to go apply to AAFES on-base to learn the answer to that. The Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) specifies employment of local national civilians. The US guarantees so many jobs to German civilians in part for allowing a US military base to be stationed on their home territory. So, your status as a spouse of an American military man and being a German national yourself has special connotations. You really have to just go to AAFES civilian personnel office and ask that question. Best wishes, Larry Smith Senior Master Sergeant, USAF (Ret.) First Sergeant
2 :
check wit the employment at the nearest one

Yes you could, that is if they hire you as a "local national." Lately its hard to get in as one since the HRO office prefers American Spouses because they are cheaper. As a German they would have to pay in Euros at a higher hourly salary and give you all the benefits including Medical Insurance. It also depends on the base. Where I am at they just hired 3 Germans because all the soldiers came back from their Deployment and they were hurting on ppl. What you could try is apply for a position in the Food Court first. Cause once your "in" its easier to move around within AAFES, that is if you don't mind working in a Dining Facility, But it helps you make a name for yourself, and its easier to work yourself up as supervisor, and THAT you could use on your application from the HRO, also, the dining facility can write you a letter of recommendation which always looks good on any resume.

English programs in Germany
English programs in Germany?
I currently live and work in Germany as a US citizen on a work visa. A friend of mine who is currently studying computer sciences at the University of Tübingen (also an American citizen) said that they offer an English literary program taught in English. He was not sure on the details of it, and I was unable to find anything on it. Thus, I was wondering if anyone else out there has taken part in it, and if so could they share the details with me. With that, I was wondering the restrictions on a student visa for Germany, such as how much I could work per year while on my student visa. The last thing is that my friend said he got a scholarship of about 700 Euro a month from Baden Wurttemberg. Does anyone know about the scholarship, or does it sound familiar to them?

Your best bet to find out is either the website of the UNI Tübingen or contact them and ask for detailed information. On a student visa you are allowed to work part time usually that means not more than 400 € per month. 700 € are not much money in Baden Württemberg which together with Bavaria is the economical strongest and thus most expensive part of Germany.
2 :
Hi, Baden Wurttemberg surely is a rich state and offers quality education along with scholarships. Various German Universities offer English programs and they are really good. Check the program outline since there might be some courses in German too. I have seem Universities offering complete degree program in English language. As per working rights are concerned, on student visa, you can work 90 working days or 180 half working days. Beware of your health insurance limit when working. Check out:

how do i register online to work in Germany
how do i register online to work in Germany?
I seem to be having problems finding it. I was told i would be able to register for working in Germany online. But i cannot seem to find the option on the website, http://www.auswaertiges-amt.de/EN/Startseite_node.html My country is in the European Union. I have to register to work in Germany even if i was in Germany, even Germans need to do this! i am only asking if i can do this online!

Whoever told you that is waaaay off base.. No such thing. unless you are a citizen of a European Union country, you cannot work in Germany without getting a work visa...and they are nearly impossible to get. See site below. For visa application info, see 2nd site.
2 :
There is NO such option as to register online to work in Germany! Since you are an EU citizen the procedure is the following. You move to Germany and there you register with the local authorities for a residency, that is what also every German and every resident has to do nobody is required to register to work. That done you go to the local Arbeitsamt and search for a job or you search the local newspapers etc. Be aware any decent job requires you to speak German. Also be aware for many citizens of EU countries in Eastern Europe ( for example Poland ) there are still restrictions to work in Germany.

Well as a British citizen of course you can work and live in Germany. That's the point of European Union (at least for the older member states...). For doing your own business you have to declare yourself to be a "Selbstständiger" (which means smtg like independent). For this you have to get a special tax-number which allows you to write bills ("Rechnungsnummer"). But to be honest it aint that easy, also for Germans. So dont expect to solve that soon. The best is if you can get a "Steuerberater" (tax consultant) he/she sure can help you with that! but it will cost a Euro or two... All the best and good luck!

It depends on if your bank endorses the Interac, Visa, Mastercard usage. Most major cards do but to be sure check with your bank. You may also want to check the international ATM fees...they're usually more than what you pay locally.

it work if your atm have visa or master logo

If I make a DVD on my computer for a German friend, will they be able to watch it on their DVD players in Germany?

Yes. DVDs are the same in any type of the world. Only video camera tapes and video cassettes won't work if you play them in another country other than yours. Example: I had a video cassette from my old country, Romania, and the cassettes are different than the ones in the US,so the cassette wont fit in the VCR. The only way to make it work is to convert it to a DVD-R or Blu-Ray. The DVD WILL WORK IN ALL COUNTRIES IT ISN'T LIKE THE CASSETTE! I really hope this is helpful!
2 :
YahooWii forgot one thing. Copyrighted DVD's have a region code and will only work in players with that region code enabled. But that's only the commercially made copyrighted DVD's, not the home made ones. Yours should work fine, unless it's a pirated copy of something.

Chances are your camcorder's charger accepts a wide range of input voltages so you'll just need a socket adapter. More complex electronics such as TVs won't work as the AC frequency is different.

Most likely not. You will need a phone from verizon that is designated as a "World Phone". TMobile is the major cell phone provider in Germany, and they use a different radio type and frequency than Verizon does, so you need a world phone from Verizon or a phone from ATT or TMobile USA to work in Germany.

Likey, if you can get it the AC voltage the label specifies, and it works with NTSC video, or you can force your video source to 720P or greater. The tuner will not work at all.

I want to work in Germany but where
I want to work in Germany but where?
I want to work in Germany. I am native english speaker, and I don't speak German. Where could I find a job? I would like to teach conversational English or have an Office Job or even a tourism job. I'm Open to any job. Any suggestions? Websites? What websites are good? Where or whom shall I contact?

Most jobs in Germany require at least some knowledge of German, but not always. Most German jobs also require good qualifications or experience. Your best bet may be to try the high-tech, tourism, or financial multinational companies in the big cities, such as Berlin, Munich, Hamburg, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Cologne etc. If you're open to any job, perhaps seasonal agricultural work might be an option for you. However, I hear the pay isn't very good. Perhaps some of these websites may help: - Jobdays de. - Alljobs 24de. - Jobsuchmaschine24 de. - JobScout24 de. - Käuferportal - Absolventa de. - Jobs de.

From the frequencies it supports, yes. However, some phones are "SIM-locked", i.e., you cannot use them with cards other than the ones issued by your own provider. If you want to buy a new cellphone card in Germany and put it in, that may not work. To find out if yours is locked and won't work with a different SIM card, you need to ask your provider company. If you do not plan on changing cards, you're phone will most probably work.

Does anyone know of ways for an American to work in Germany perferably in the Stuttgart area?

You could try getting a government contractor job. There are a lot of positions over there through the military too.
2 :
Years ago I did a 1year "gig" as an aupair there and LOVED it! Try www.aupairs.uk.co and cooljobs.com
3 :
There are many American companys in Stuttgart. Search the net and apply there. They might also need your language knowledge. If you want to live and work in Germany you either must be fluent in German or work for the US Military. Also consider that it is difficult to obtain work permission here. Another address is Meine Stadt: http://www.meinestadt.de/
4 :
Military PX also check into NCO club, Officers club rod and Bottle as we called it, but it is a sports club for military what are your skills Camp sites, the list goes on
5 :
Yay, without EU work permit it's kind of difficult. The American companies in Germany love native English speaker who knows German language (I worked for HP, DOW, Agilent and also US Army contractor in Germany) but they aren't always willing to help you obtain work permit unless you're an expert, and freshly university grad does not really count as an expert. However my friends did this, they got jobs at German corporation in the US (Lufthansa, Daimler, Bosch, Siemens etc) and worked their way to get transfered to Germany. Maybe you should try Monster.com instead, and look for international jobs. Or, if you're willing to work for the government like the other suggested, I think you will have better chances. You need to have patience. Try this http://cpolrhp.belvoir.army.mil/eur/index.htm

I think the easiest way would be on a military base, and yes, there is one in Stuttgart. Type into a search engine, Civilian Human Resources Command, or Civilian Jobs in Germany. I used to know the link but don't have it anymore. I bet you'd be able to find something. Good Luck, we are military in Germany, we love it here. Oh, someone above me had the right site address: http://cpolrhp.belvoir.army.mil/eur/index.htm Or try this site: http://www.jobsabroad.com/Germany.cfm

Where are you graduating from? Uni in Germany, uni in the rest of Europe or uni in the USA? The best way to obtain a work permit in Germany is to graduate from a uni there. After graduation, you are given one year to find a job that fits your qualifications. If you find such a job, you get an instant work permit. So if you are graduating from an university in the USA, you might check out the possibility of doing a master degree in Germany. http://www.daad.de Also the biggest elephant in the Stuttgart area is Daimler-Chrysler. Maybe you should apply with them in the US and then seek a transfer? The German section in Stuttgart also seeks "Werkstudenten" with an international background. Maybe you could get an internship with them? If you are already in Germany, you can also do freelance work. A work permit for this kind of work is relatively easy to obtain in Germany. Just come to Germany as a regular tourist, then go to your local Ausländerbehörde and apply for a residency permit and a work permit for freelance work. You might be forced to teach English for a living, but once you are there it might be easier for you to find a job.

English teacher? You can get a TEFL pretty easily.
4 :
Sorry, you can not work unless you are legal. I know this since my fiancee at the time stayed at home and could not get an authorization to work. You will need to file at least a civil marriage if you want to be allowed to work. The only exception might be on US military bases where you can find work under other laws than the EU immigration laws. Au-pair is also a solution. You could also be a language teaching assisstant but the salary is extremely low (lower than the minimum wage). Alternatively if you are highly qualified you could try to find an employer to sponsor your visa. You could also enroll to university which would allow you to work the equivalent of half-time. You can also try to bring a substancial amount of money and start your company (I hope you have a lot of cash then... the limit would be like 50 000€)

Forget it. My son just spent 16 months looking for work in Germany and his mother is German. He finally gave up and returned to the states. Germany has been running at about 12% unemployment. Johan, my son was educated in German schools as he grew up in Germany with his mother. He returned to the States at the age of 25. He was here 5 years and returned to Germany, He could find Nothing. Nada , Nichts.

In Germany in homes as well in public places they sort their trash/recycling into 5 groups, Paper (packaging), Plastics, Glass, Cans, and Biodegradables. I had a friend get quite a lengthly lecture from a older German citizen when he put his paper in the plastic. I'm not sure how it affects the government but all of the people I've spent time with had no issue with sorting their recycling and my host family even enjoyed it because it was "good for the earth."

I think the Germany is doing okay in recycling the household trashes. However, they do have the problem of the trabant of four wheels can not be land-filled. These are Russian made cars that's come up with some political issues. I think the following website provides a good answer to your question. http://www.pbs.org/safarchive/4_class/45_pguides/pguide_402/4542_trabant.html

they recycle everything

I am in the recycling business in the US. Germany has the reputation to be ahead of the rest of the world in recycling. Europe has plans to build over a thousand recycling plants just for automobiles within the next 10 years.

What American electronics work in Germany
What American electronics work in Germany?
Hi, I may be moving to Germany soon. I was wondering what electronics work in Germany? TV - I think no, but not sure. Different scan rates?? Computer - not sure Wii - ?? Kitchen appliances - need converter??

You will need a 110wt converter cable or surge protector. Most of Germany's modern apartments, homes, and hotels to have a conversion to 220 with no problem, but if you are going to live in an older apartment or house (built before 1990) you will need to purchase converter cables or switches for them to work. I hope you have a wonderful time there. It is beautiful this time of year. I found this site for you and it may help some. http://www.german-way.com/electric.html
2 :
You need to check the TV is showing on the papers or at the back side is for 110 and 220. Than you can use it in Germany, with the computer is the same too, I have one and using with Adapter. Kitchen appliances you can't use it. In case you can use it all with Transformers, but not the Stove.
3 :
your TV wont work, BTW Germans pay a TV tax. PC-laptop or desktop? Most laptops auto power-shift from 110 to 220. just look on the charging unit, it will say something like 110-220 vac 50-60 hz. But you will need a new cord or an adapter for their wall outlets. Kitchen appliances are tricky. What appliances? Because they use 50 hz and we use 60 hz even with a transformer things with motors tend to run funny
4 :
If you have a modern TV that supports 50Hz-rates it will work. But for every device you'll need a plug adapter and a converter from 110V to 220V - then everything will work properly.

Until 31 December 2013, your ability to work might be restricted in: * Austria * Belgium * France * Germany * Ireland * Italy * Luxembourg * Malta * The Netherlands * United Kingdom To work in these countries, you will need a work permit. Some countries have simplified their procedures or reduced restrictions in some sectors or for some professions. Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein impose full restrictions.
